CHRIS + ELYSSA

Dow gardens never disappoints, really anytime of the year there is something to be seen. Elyssa + Chris braved the hot hot weather with me to capture all this cuteness.
Cannot wait to work with them again in October for their big day!

FILED IN: ADVENTURES

Well overdue! We ( myself and 7 other photographer friends from all over the US ) traveled to Iceland this past Feb.
The trip was insanely beautiful, I would have stayed for another week if I could have! Iceland offers so much beauty and we just happened to squeak by – – with a cheap direct flight out of Detroit through WOW air for less than $400 round trip!

We stayed at some pretty great air bnbs, we tried to spread them out so our itinerary allowed us to see everything within the southern area of Iceland we had hoped for!
Our first was just outside of Reykjavik and literally a stones throw from the sea. It was so beautiful! The weather was hit or miss.. it seemed eerily similar to Michigan at some points. Storms would blow in and clear by afternoon similar to how we get lake effect weather here, being an island it totally made sense.

Here is our 1st air bnb…

From here we traveled up through Thingvellir National Park  where two of our travelers went free diving. The Silfra is a fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates   it is the result of earthquakes. The diving and snorkeling site at Silfra is right where the two continents meet and drift apart about 2 cm per year. Silfra is the only place in the world where you can dive or snorkel directly in a crack between two tectonic plates and is named the clearest waters to dive in the world. I chickened out because getting cold isn’t my thing, but it did seem magical.

Almost as magical as these little cuties! I would have stuck on in my suitcase if I could have, Icelandic ponies are awesome. Each one is a little unique in his or her own way, they are way smaller than I had anticipated. Our second air bnb was smack dab in the middle of a horse farm, literally hundreds of these little friends all over. My kinda place! Impromptu horse farm shoot..

Lots of driving and stopping along the way to grab some shots whenever we saw somewhere we liked..

Skógafoss waterfall was amazing! Especially in winter! A little slick so most of my shots were from me sliding around on my knees on the ice!

Diamond Beach (Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & Beach)
we shot until we ran out of sunlight.. words cannot describe this place.
We stayed at the FossHotel which was a short drive away from the glacier.
